The Brook Red Lion Hotel in Colchester, Essex is a historical Grade I listed building dating back to 1465. Located in the busy town centre of Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town, The Brook Red Lion Hotel in Colchester is one of the oldest inns in the area.

The Parliament Restaurant at the Red Lion Hotel was once the old Banqueting Hall, still showing its timbered beams.

There are three known ghosts - a small boy that can be seen in the Parliament restaurant occassionally and has appeared in a guest's photograph, a ghostly monk that hangs around in reception, but the most active is Alice Millar.
Alice was a chambermaid at the hotel and was killed by a lover.
Alice has regularly been heard whispering and even talking to staff. There are recent accounts of people's hair being pulled and a womans voice appearing on a video taken in one of the rooms, with no obvious cause.

The original rooms still have their original wattle and daub beams. They are also, obviously, the most haunted.

Medway Queen entered service in 1924 on the Strood-Chatham-Southend-Herne Bay route.

Medway Queen was requisitioned for the Royal Navy in 1939 and converted for mine-sweeping. In 1940 HMS Medway Queen joined the 10th Mine-sweeping Flotilla based in Dover. HMS Medway Queen remained an active minesweeper until late 1943 when she became an accommodation ship for a few months.

The 10th Flotilla played a key part in 'Operation Dynamo' in May-June 1940. Medway Queen and her crew made seven return trips across the channel to bring the men home. The ship's crew estimated that they evacuated 7,000 men while shooting down three Axis aircraft.

In 1946/7 she was refitted and returned to civilian use. The famous Invicta motif was placed on the ship's funnel and in 1954 there was the addition of a bracket on the funnel for navigation lights. In the early 1960s paddle steamers were struggling to compete with newer-type vessels and the Medway Queen made her last voyage to Southend on 9th September 1963.

The ship was privately purchased in August 1965 and towed to the Isle of Wight to become a restaurant and nightclub.

After suffering hull damage in 1984 The Medway Queen moved back to the River Medway on a pontoon. The current Medway Queen Preservation Society was formed in 1985 and subsequently became owners of this historic vessel.

Medway Queen is now moored at Gillingham Pier where she can be visited.
