Pendennis Castle Ghost Hunt - Cornwall - 16th February 2013

Pendennis Castle is a Henrician castle, also known as one of Henry VIII's Device Forts, in the English county of Cornwall. It was built in 1539 for King Henry VIII to guard the entrance to the River Fal on its west bank, near Falmouth. St Mawes Castle is its opposite number on the east bank and they were built to defend Carrick Roads from the French and Spanish threats of future attack. The castle comprises a simple round tower and gate enclosed by a lower curtain wall. It is now in the care of English Heritage.
Pendennis Castle was built alongside a series of forts running along the southwest coast of Britain from Hull to Milford Haven. This was in response to the threat of invasion to Henry VIII from the French and Spanish.
Pendennis Castle had a role in the English Civil War. It was the last Royalist position in the West of England, and a Royalist garrison withstood a five-month siege (March 1646 to 17 August 1646) from Parliamentarian forces before surrendering.
Ghosts
Many of the ghostly forms are thought to emanate from the famous seige during the Civil War when hundreds of people, including women and children died here. A childish figure in Civil War attire has been seen making his way up the spiral staircase in the Tudor Kitchen and several members of staff have reported sightings of a ghostly female disappearing up some now blocked up stairs. The ghostly figure of another lady has been seen on the lawned area outside the Keep and is thought to be the wife of a Royalist officer. Children's laughter has also been heard by the security people whilst they have been locking up. There have also been sightings of WWII soldiers been in the now gift shop.
The ghost hunt will include a paranormal investigation of the whole of the Castle.
