Ghost Hunt at Hooke Court (October)

Hooke Court in Beaminster, Dorset is a 17th-century manor house built around the time of the English Civil War.
In the Civil War it was damaged by fire by Roundheads but repaired in 1647 by the Duke of Bolton. There had previously been medieval buildings on the site. In 2007 it was featured on the television series Time Team as they investigated the medieval buildings.
Hooke Court was previously a boarding school for boys with educational, emotional or behavioural problems, from 1946 to 1992.
Ghostly activity
Staff have claimed to have seen shadow figures in the corridors, ghost of the 'white lady', cold blasts and doors mysteriously opening by themselves. Disembodied voices and footsteps have been heard - could these be former family members who lived at Hooke Court, or boys from when Hooke Court was a school?
The most unnerving tale is that of a young woman believed to have died tragically on the grounds - her sobs are often heard near the old well, and shadowy figures have been captured moving between the trees outside. Ghosts of civil war soldiers have also been seen.

Ghost Hunt at Charlton House (Halloween)

Location: Greenwich, London

Charlton House in Greenwich, London was built between 1607 and 1612 by Sir Adam Newton, Charlton House is one of the finest examples of Jacobean domestic architecture in the country.
The house and grounds were used as a hospital for officers during World War I and were bought by the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich in 1925. The North (Chapel) Wing was bombed during the Blitz of the Second World War and was subsequently rebuilt albeit with non-matching bricks such as were available in the immediate post-war period.

Ghost Hunt at Shaw House (Halloween)

Shaw House in Newbury, West Berkshire was built in 1581 by Thomas Dolman who made his money as a clothier in Newbury. In the October of 1644 the house witnessed the Second Battle of Newbury and although the house remained unscathed, hundreds of soldiers died in a standoff and many believe this plays a large part in the ghostly encounters witnessed on the estate, the ground and the main house.
Shaw House stood empty until 1728, when the Duke of Chandos bought the estate. The Duke (James Brydges) improved the grounds between 1729 and 1737 however he kept within the framework established by the Dolman family. During the Second World War Shaw House was requisitioned and used by the British, American and Canadian armies.
The house accommodated over two hundred men – a far cry from the pampered households of the earlier times. Later in 1942 American and Canadian troops were housed at Shaw; these troops were subsequently to take part in the D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy in 1944.
In 1949 it was finally purchased by Berkshire County Council for use as a Council School. Shaw House began a new life as a school for local children but sadly in 1985 it was evacuated as there were major concerns about the structure of the building.
The unique feature in relation to the paranormal claims at Shaw House is that many have reported full body apparitions throughout the many rooms as well as the sound of battle on the lawns.
Mysterious balls of blue light and a Grey Lady have been seen in the upper rooms. The screams of a former house maid are also said to echo from a tunnel, which reportedly runs between Shaw House to Donnington Castle. She was killed when the tunnel collapsed. The sound of marching has been heard inside the building, and visitors also claim to feeling watched when they have been alone inside!

The Merchant's House in Marlborough, Wiltshire is located in Marlborough's historic High Street. Built during the Commonwealth period, 1653 – 1656, The Merchant's House is a rare example of a middle class silk merchant’s house, containing nationally acclaimed wall paintings and decorative features.
Following the fire of Marlborough in 1653, the house was largely rebuilt by wealthy silk merchant, Thomas Bayly.
The house was altered and extended until about 1700. After this, the house was sub-divided and sublet with many different people occupying the building.
The Merchant's House Trust reunited the two halves of the building in 1999.
The house was decorated with wall paintings, wooden panelling and a commanding oak staircase. A substantial amount of this fabric survives and previously hidden painted decoration is still being revealed.
The ghostly activity witnessed here by staff and visitors is frequent and well documented with the most frequent being:-
- A boy in blue seen on the stairs
- A green lady gliding towards the Dining Room
- Doors opening on their own, for no obvious reason
- Unexplained and disembodied footsteps echoing through the rooms
